Saudi Arabia, December 27, 2017

Governor of the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) Faisal Kadasa has revealed that the corporation will build 31 new technical education institutions in various cities of the Makkah province.

Following a tour of the construction site of the second technical college for girls in Jeddah Sunday morning, Kadasa said 83 percent of the work is in final stages.

He said the college, which will cost an estimated SR82 million, is one of 31 projects the TVTC is planning to implement in the province. The total budget for the projects to be set up in the cities of Makkah, Taif, Qunfudah, Laith and Rabigh is SR1.3 billion.

The TVTC in cooperation with the Ministry of Education plans to encourage 32 percent of high school graduates to join TVTC programs, Kadasa said. By 2020 they hope to train 950,000 males and females in various technical and vocational trades, he added.

Kadasa said many other training programs were under way to achieve the objectives of Vision 2030.

According to the TVTC's annual report for the year 1437-1438, up to 182,379 young men and women applied for TVTC programs but only 55,000 were accepted. In the same year over 12,600 graduated from various TVTC programs.

The report said TVTC opened 45 branches of technical colleges in different regions to provide training to young Saudis in their hometowns. The corporation also equipped 13 colleges to offer bachelor programs. It employed 864 Saudi trainers and 50 expatriate trainers.

The corporation has trained 45,600 students in telecommunication jobs. The training was offered to both men and women to help Saudization of the sector.

TVTC opened over 170 academies that issue internationally-accredited professional certification to the trainees.

Kadasa said 3,866 were enrolled in intra-departmental training programs and military training programs and 1,978 of them have graduated.

He said 4,992 inmates received training inside prisons and 1,342 have graduated.

The TVTC chief said 1101 women living in social protection homes also received training and 1,015 of them graduated with TVTC certificates.

In all, over 1,600 young Saudis benefited from the English for business program.

The TVTC also supervises 900 private training institutes with a total enrollment of 183,000 trainees.
